HM Inspector of Health & Safety , HSE
Dr. Alexander Tsavalos joined the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in 1997, as a scientific officer his background in biochemistry saw him implementing the biocidal products regulations. Transferring to frontline Inspection he spent 10 years covering: agriculture, construction, chemical manufacture, COMAH and safety auditing. Moving into policy and operational delivery he dealt with: nanotechnology, LPG, explosives, acetylene, stakeholder engagement, public consultation and regulatory reform, and engaging and directing Local Authorities as health and safety enforcers. At the start of the pandemic Alex oversaw HSE’s small businesses, entertainment, leisure, consumer services and machinery/equipment safety policy teams and then moved to HSE’s response to the COVID Public Inquiries. For the last year Alex has been part of the leadership team developing HSE’s interventions, currently focussed on: silica, asbestos, stress, manual handling, noise, dust, occupational health provision, fairgrounds.
