Baz has spent his professional career supporting disadvantaged young people and working to improve systems of education and employment.

After teaching in disadvantaged secondary schools in London and Manchester for five years, he joined the founding team of the teacher recruitment technology start-up Teacher Booker while completing his MPhil in Psychology at the University of Cambridge. He then worked as Research Lead at Teacher Tapp, the country’s largest daily survey of teachers, before joining The Centre for Education and Youth where he was Head of Policy until April 2025. He then spent nine months working on Higher Education, skills and labour market policy at MillionPlus before joining YEUK.

Baz has considerable research and policy expertise from across the education and employment spaces, having been an expert advisor to a range of sector bodies – including Nesta, the Youth Endowment Fund and Careers & Enterprise Company. He has appeared widely as an expert commentator in broadcast media, including on the BBC 6 O’Clock News, and has been published in The Evening Standard, Independent and Financial Times.
