Workplace Witchcraft: Leading Humans in a “Together Alone” World

  • We’re not using old maps, we’re pretending the terrain hasn’t changed.
  • It’s not fear of change, it’s fear of exposure.
  • The workplace isn’t a system to fix, it’s a story to lead.
  • Leadership is the operating system; everything else is just interface.
  • People don’t want to work from home or the office, they want to feel alive, trusted and connected.
  • Workplace strategy now sits in people’s wallets, not just in boardrooms.
  • The magic was never in the office.

Artificial Intelligence in Occupational Safety: From Concept to Practical Application

Artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how organisations identify risk, monitor compliance and improve safety performance - but what does this mean in practice for OSH professionals?

This session draws on insights from Phoenix Health & Safety’s exclusive NEBOSH Verified Artificial Intelligence – Application in OSH course, to offer attendees a clear, real-world perspective on how AI can be integrated into existing safety strategies to support proactive risk management. It will provide an overview of current AI applications including predictive risk analytics, intelligent safety management systems and emerging technologies such as computer vision and wearables. Key considerations around governance, ethics and responsible implementation will also be considered

Rob Burgon, Lead Trainer, Phoenix Health and Safety

11:35 - 12:05

Panel discussion: The Future of the OSH Profession

In a fast‑moving VUCA world, our profession is being reshaped by rapid shifts in technology, trust, and talent. This session explores key opportunities—AI augmentation, smarter insight, and more cross-disciplinary ways of working—alongside emerging threats such as regulatory complexity and new psychosocial and environmental risks. The panel will discuss why continual learning is now essential and how professionals can move beyond tick-box compliance to build a genuine culture of care—one that empowers judgement, strengthens wellbeing, and drives better outcomes for people and organisations.

Presenter:
Dee Arp, Chief Quality Officer, NEBOSH

Panel:
Crystal Danbury, Director of Group Safety, Insurance and Occupational Wellbeing, Sainsbury’s
Stuart Hughes, Head of Health and Safety, Mercedes‑AMG Petronas Formula One Team
Rosie Russell, Co‑President of IIRSM and the Director of EHS & Sustainability at MeiraGTx

14:10 - 14:40

Using Motivational Interviewing to Influence Decisions

In this interactive session, Dr Nick Bell introduces Motivational Interviewing (MI): a practical, evidence‑based approach to influencing decisions through better conversations. You’ll explore why people sometimes push back against change — even when it is clearly sensible. The session shows how asking different questions, and listening differently, can strengthen motivation for change and improve the quality of safety conversations at every level.

Dr Nick Bell, Honorary Principal Lecturer, Cardiff Metropolitan University

15:05 - 15:35

Building Resilience into Workplace Controls: Beyond “Just” Complying with Regulations

In our efforts to comply with regulations, are we missing the essential reason for assessing risk? And is there a better way to ensure our risk assessments are ‘suitable and sufficient’ beyond just reviewing them periodically? Drawing on previous research and his work in a variety of industries, David England will examine the relationship between assessing risk and managing risk. He will also demonstrate how the control measures we develop can be made more resilient to real world pressures via a simple process of examination.

Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Safety Hub

Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Safety Hub

New to SHW Live London2026, visit the Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Safety Hub in partnership with Safelincs. Discover what can be done to mitigate lithium-ion battery fires and what tools are available to prevent and control fires of this type. Catch one of our live product demos that will take you through the latest solutions on the market. Or, speak to the team of experts to discuss your specific risks and explore different options accompanied by practical advice.

Fires resulting from emerging energy technologies are becoming more common with research from Business Insurer QBE reporting that UK FRS are now tackling 3 fires related to lithium-ion batteries every day. With Government safety standards and legislation slow to react, it is left to organisations to decide how best to mitigate the risk. In addition, many insurance providers are stipulating adequate prevention and protection for premises against this type of fire, meaning that businesses across the UK need to take action.

Join them for live demonstrations of industry-leading solutions such as containment boxes, safe charging and storage cabinets, specialised extreme temperature fire blankets, pallet covers and extinguishing media. Speak to their team of experts to find out what solutions may work for you, or pop along to their Insights Hub to share your experiences with lithium-ion fires and hear what others are doing to combat the risk:

NEW CONFERENCE STREAMS FOR 2026

Wellbeing 2.0

While mental health awareness has increased, statistics suggest more workers are being signed off with anxiety, depression and burn out. The profession has reached a stage of saturation when it comes to wellbeing – fruit bowls, smoothies and office yoga suggest a hollow tick-box approach, now is the time for pro-active, robust frameworks that treats health like safety.

At SHW Live London you’ll find content that challenges what’s gone before; speakers, panels and case studies that move the dial on mental health management in the workplace. How does data make those difficult conversations slightly easier? How can we spot the subtle signs of anxiety among our employees? And how can we collaborate with HR to ultimately reduce staff absence.

The New Risks

The world is changing, society is changing, the environment is changing, people are changing - the risks are changing.

Is the profession ready for the impact of extreme weather; flash flooding and violent winds; extreme heat and freezing temperatures.

Is the profession ready for a change in human factors, a less-tolerant public and a frazzled workforce.

Attend London to find out what we’re facing and how we can prepare.

Yes, but what’s the ROI?

Today, the modern safety professional has the ear of the CEO as the c-suite recognises health and safety as a business case.

However, it means justifying a new safety initiative or product to the financial director requires a business case and a return on investment.

Learn from those professionals who have implemented new systems and seen a tangible ROI while keeping workers safe.

  AI, Data and Adoption

Technology continues to develop at such a rate it can be tricky to keep up. However, the last 12 months have seen a significant growth in big data, automation and artificial intelligence.

Tech, in particular AI, is now a cornerstone of safety management. It’s not going anywhere and failure to adopt will leave many behind.

In London, join conversations that go beyond the existential and embrace practical application – how can we use technology to make people safe?

Legislation, Regulation and Compliance

Legislation is the bedrock of the profession and staying compliant the bedrock of any professional. Applying complex legal requirements into the workplace requires a knowledge of new and upcoming regulation.

At London hear from expert health and safety lawyers who understand that the key to new safety legislation is in its application; and learn about the Building Safety Act, Martyn’s Law and how to protect yourself legally in the AI revolution keeping you ahead of the compliance curve.

The Future Profession

We continue to debate the skills shortage in the safety profession, hand wringing as we view the widening gap between new talent and retiring knowledge.

It’s time to accept the statistics and find out what’s happening. In Manchester, hear from those coming through and the challenges they face and the changes we can make.

Perhaps it’s time to shout more about the leaders - professionals who sit on the board and influence strategy. How do incoming safety leaders prepare for this transition? At SHW Live London learn about the soft skills needed to make this leap – how to influence, communicate smartly and make a difference beyond the risk assessment.
